The torrid heat that is sweating Tennessee these days shows that summer doesn’t plan to leave any time soon. In fact, these weather conditions will probably delay autumn foliage. But don’t worry, we are going to enjoy those beautiful leaf colors by the end of the year.
For many people, summer ends when September begins, but the fact is the fall officially begins on September 22. Usually, Tennessee starts to get those orange, red, and yellow colors around Halloween, at the end of October. For that to happen, the conditions have to be right, which means we need rainy springs, lower heat, and chilly mornings in the fall. But this year, that wasn’t the case.
Rainfall in Tennessee was below average this spring, and add to that scorching temperatures these days. Meteorologists predict that fall will be warmer than it usually is. All these weather conditions will postpone the beautiful fall colors.
Those who live in Middle Tennessee will enjoy the autumn colors in the first weeks of November. In East Tennessee, the leaves will start to change somewhere between the end of October and the beginning of November, while the West Tennessee tree will be transformed into beautiful fall colors during November, just before Thanksgiving.
